Well, shucks.

Murphy Goode announced their top 50 and I am not in that list. So that's sad.

But! I found out that Fresno City College basically let's people over 25 take classes for free (there's some minor fees, but class costs are waived) so I may take some writing classes some time soon.

One day left!

Only a little over a day left for voting! It'd be super awesome if the under dog slipped into the top 50 so please vote and try to get others to vote too!

Help me get an awesome job.

Okay, so there's this winery, Murphy Goode. They're hiring someone to be a Lifestyle Correspondent. It pays super well, and it'd get me out of my warehouse job now. So, do me a favor and click this link, vote me as your favorite. Oh, and please don't tease me too much about my video :)

Reposting this behind cuts to remind people. The girly has entered a contest to be a Calendar Girl, so we'd really appreciate it if you folks could cast some votes for her. You can vote once every 24 hours, so please vote multiple times! There is a registration required, but it's just an e-mail and password. Note: The confirmation e-mail for registration is taking its time to get to me, so it may be slow for any of you as well.

Sorry for large images, but I want this big and bold for the first day. I'll probably be reposting this behind cuts to remind people. A recap

So the holidays are over. It's a new year and I'm sat at my computer killing time before work. So basically not a whole lot has changed.

The holidays are always stressful and anxiety provoking for me, so I tend to just withdraw and hermit myself away from about mid-October until mid-January. This year has been no exception. But, as a new year is wont to do, I am finding myself reviewing my previous year and seeing where things are taking me. Taking stock, if you will.

I have a decent job, even if I don't like it. In a time and region where a steady paycheck is far from guaranteed, I'm thankful for that. I have a loving girlfriend and things are going well. My family and I seem to be going well, though it can be hard to tell since we never talk about anything meaningful. I will be seeing them next week. (note: Gotta arrange stuff with Jess and Hotsauce). My plans for the future are hazy, but coalescing. I have an idea of a direction, if not direction itself. I've picked up new hobbies and possibly rekindled interest in old ones. I've made some self-discoveries that I think are pretty important, and I've pinned down parts of my personality that definitely need improvement.

So all in all, I think I'm doing alright.

Christmas and New Years were pretty dull for me. Girlfriend was out of town for both so I just sat at home and hermitted. The family sent me and her lots of stuff. I got spoiled a bit. The family got me a new leatherman, camelbak, a couple magic DVDs, some decks of cards, a couple books, a Porper clip, a bracelet with my initials engraved on it. The girlfriend got me stuff in NYC. David Blaine's 'Fearless' (Signed), a deck of Split Spades Lions (David Blaine's custom cards, signed), a couple other decks of cards and something else she forgot to give me yesterday, so I don't know what that is.

Though they don't realize it, the fact that my family actually got gifts that seem like they put thought into them for the girlfriend is a gift in itself. My family has, in the past, always kept out of my relationships. They don't actively disapprove of anyone I've dated, but if they don't like the person they just keep their distance and don't say anything until it all blows up. This is the first time I've been dating someone that my family has spoiled (more than me, I might add ;) ). It feels nice to have them make that gesture.

That's enough time wasted on LJ. Time to shower and gather things for work.

This one's for Hotsauce but he won't remember the context

Way back when, at PDF, I mentioned to Hotsauce that hot water freezes faster. He didn't believe me and I didn't have any data to back it up. It's just something I'd heard or read back in highschool so I let it go.

Then I stumbled across this today:

I was right! Kind of.

Positive outlook

It's 4 AM on Monday and I've already been awake for an hour. I am finishing up cooking my breakfast. Petite sirloin, three eggs fried, spiced potatoes baked. That'll carry me until about 7:30 when I get my first break at work. I've been eating like this as much as I can stand and I still dropped 5 lbs over the last month. I think I've just shed the last vestiges of body fat but it's still a little disturbing to hop on the scale and see you've just lost weight.

In other life news, work has settled into a rhythm that I can handle, which means that things will probably get changed around soon. I'm only working a few hours of overtime a week now, usually only about 5 (compared to 8 hours of overtime and 4 hours of double time a few months ago). It's nice to know I'll be home in the early afternoon and have time to get things done. Not that I've been getting much done, but it's nice to know that I -could-.

Girlfriend and I have been having a lot of 'what do I want to do with my life' moments. Possible answers (in no particular order and applying to at least one of us): writer, pole dancer, dancer in general, traveling performers, 'business fixer', ESL instructor, yarn store owner, bartender, magician.

I've been missing home a lot lately. I have realized that I am an East Coast type of person, as my friend Carling puts it. I'll be in PA in January, so some people should be expecting a visit.

Is this what it means to grow up?

Things that have made me feel old, now that I just slipped into 27.

When listening to the radio a while ago, there was a long stretch of good music I hadn't heard in a while. As I was thinking, 'Man, the radio finally doesn't suck today' the DJ announced that they were halfway through their Retro Lunch.

Thinking, 'I should get a bit of sleep before I have to get up for work' at 9 PM.

Thinking of what to make for dinner tonight, and actually having to sort through a selection of wine bottles. 'Let's see ... there'll be chicken so that's white wine ... hm .. the muscat canelli will be pretty sweet but the sauvignon blanc was tasty ... ' [1]

And of course, the thought that sparked this entire idea: When I started wanting clothing for Christmas.

[1] We spent the weekend in Paso Robles, hit up 9 wineries for tastings and did a tour of Hearst Castle. We now have more wine in the house than has ever been in a living quarter of mine.

This is odd.

So I'm bored, waiting for a phone call. I've watched every episode of House on Hulu, along with every episode of Bones and Psych and my obsession with Dr. Horrible is dying off so I only kind of want to watch it again. I haven't re-built my computer, so I don't have access to all the other shows I watch.

So I'm hitting 'random' user on LJ just to see what comes up. 7 of 10 of them are Russian. Why are there so many Russians on LJ? Furthermore ... I think it's interesting that the little "post" and "friends" and such at the top of the page switch to Russian when viewing a Russian page.

Okay, maybe this was only interesting to me.

How did I not know about this?

http://www.drhorrible.com/

A short film (42 min) about a wannabe villain, Dr. Horrible, who's trying to get into the Evil League of Evil, and his arch-nemesis Captain Hammer. Stars Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day.

And it's a musical.

Seriously. How did I not know about this?

meme!

YOU'RE ON MY FRIENDS LIST, I want to know 36 things about you. I don't care if we never talk, or if we already know everything about each other. Short and sweet is fine ... You're on my list, so I want to know you better!

Too bad the song is still awful.

This is a case where the cover is better than the original. The song is awful, but at least Alanis makes it sound nice.
